Description: On 13th June 2025, the teaching and office staff of Loreto Day School Elliot Road, attended a session organized by the Loreto Education Board, held at Loreto House. The session was conducted by Fr. Sacaria Joseph Shaju, Assistant Professor in Department of English at St. Xavier's College. The event was further graced by the elegant and encouraging presence of Mrs. Nandini Bhattacharjee. It was a thought-provoking session on the 'Importance of Discernment in decision making', aiming to deepen the understanding of discernment among the educators, both as a personal virtue and a professional necessity. The session commenced with a geopolitical discussion on the Indus Water Treaty, emphasising on its historical background, strategic importance and contemporary relevance. This was followed by an interactive group activity, where the teachers were divided into seven groups. Each group was tasked with forming a clear stance, either supporting the government's decision of suspension of the Indus Water treaty as the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident or arguing against it. This involved the practical application of discernment in decision making. The second segment took a spiritual and literary turn with the story of a swan from Yajur Veda as a symbol of discernment. Besides this, there was sharing of Biblical stories and excerpts from O Henry's 'After 20 years', Merchant of Venice, Christopher Marlowe's play 'Art of Faustus'. Each narrative highlighted the ability to separate the good from the bad and underscored how discernment plays a critical role in shaping our ethical choices and human interactions. Lastly, the session concluded with a video which served as a reflective tool, reinforcing the key message of the day. Overall, it was an engaging, motivating and enriching experience.
